Sands China’s Londoner Macau on the Cotai Strip was included on the 2023 Condé Nast Traveler Gold List, making it the only hotel in the gaming mecca to garner “China Top 10 Hotels” designation from the publication.

Condé Nast Traveler is a luxury travel and lifestyle magazine published by the media firm of the same name. The magazine annually ranks the top cruises, hotels, resorts, and other travel destinations. While Macau doesn’t lack opulent hotels, the Londoner is distinguishing itself with its place on the Condé Nast list.

At The Londoner Macao we pride ourselves on design excellence, bespoke hospitality, and unparalleled facilities, all of which combined allow us to curate refined experiences that perfectly reflect The Londoner way of living,” said Sands China COO Grant Chum in a statement. “Guests can feel at home, indulging in the best that The Londoner Macao has to offer while exploring Macao. Winning the most coveted title on the prestigious Gold List is a true testament to the hard work, dedication and passion of our team members.”

Sands China, which runs five integrated resorts in Macau, including the Londoner, is a unit of Las Vegas Sands.

Londoner History

Previously Sands Cotai Central, the $2 billion Londoner is the reimagined, British-inspired refresh of that property. It opened in early 2021 after contending with delays in 2020 caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Londoner is part of Sands’ effort to add approximately two million square feet of luxurious suite accommodations on the Cotai Strip. Londoner jibes with the operator’s plans to bring more nongaming attractions to Macau. The all-suite hotel has 600 guest suites, including some inspired by English soccer icon David Beckham.

“The first celebrity-designed suites in Macao, they reflect the discerning style and sophistication of David Beckham, Sands Resorts Macao’s global ambassador,” according to the statement. Through the ‘Be My Guest’ programme, VIP guests can literally step into the legendary footballer and style icon’s lifestyle and immerse themselves in his renowned sporting career, personal style, and interests — football, photography, tailoring, and male grooming.”

Analysts forecast that with contributions from Londoner, LVS’ Macau GGR lead will be bolstered by dominance in the mass market — a segment in which the operator controls nearly a third of the share — and nongaming offerings, including retail shops and meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE).

Londoner in Rare Air

Alone, Londoner ranking as one of the 10 best hotels in China, a country with a plethora of luxury hotels, is impressive, particularly when considering the venue hasn’t even been open for three years.

The feat stands out even more when acknowledging that, for whatever reason, the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List rarely features gaming venues or hotels in casino-centric cities.

The only Las Vegas property to garner Gold List accolades was the NoMad, the “hotel in a hotel” at Park MGM on the Strip.
