A teenager who ran away from her family later was kidnapped in Las Vegas. She also was sex trafficked at the Luxor Hotel & Casino.
Corey Canton, 36, of Las Vegas, was arrested on seven counts this week after he allegedly became the girl’s pimp.
Canton was charged Tuesday with a count of sexual assault, two counts of sex trafficking of a minor under 18, a count of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of kidnapping of a minor, and a single count of owning a gun by a prohibited person.
He remained in the Clark County Detention Center as of Thursday morning. His bail was set at $25K and he’s scheduled to appear in local court on Monday.
His case was turned over to local prosecutors. If convicted, he faces many years in prison.
The incident began on November 28 after the unnamed girl ran away from her family who were visiting Las Vegas and staying at a Las Vegas casino hotel.
Met Other Teen on Strip
The teen began to walk on the Las Vegas Strip and soon met another teenager near Caesars Palace Las Vegas.
The other unnamed teen asked the runaway “if she wanted to join her and make a ‘quick buck’ with her,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The runaway was unsure of what the teen meant but she accompanied her to the Las Vegas Days Inn on Koval Lane.
There, the victim was introduced to the other teen’s boyfriend, who turned out to be Canton.
Pulled Out Gun
Canton allegedly forced the victim to have sex. When she tried to leave the motel room, he allegedly pulled out a firearm.
The two teens then went to the Luxor where a man paid them $100 in exchange for sex, police said. Canton’s girlfriend also reportedly stole $1K from the man’s pants pocket while they were in the room at the Luxor.
The next day, Canton ordered the girls to seek more tricks for prostitution. They were told to charge customers between $100 and $300 for sex acts.
The teens went to the Strip, returning to the Days Inn hours later. The victim gave Canton $59.
Canton then fed the girls and provided them with alcohol and marijuana before sending them back to the Strip, police said.
Eventually, the victim escaped and was able to return to her family. She revealed details about the trafficking and kidnapping to her mother, who quickly reported the incident to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
When LVMPD officers searched Canton’s motel room, they found a 9mm handgun and arrested him because, as a convict, he’s not allowed to have a firearm, the Review-Journal reported.
It was unclear what happened to the second teen who was Canton’s girlfriend. Often, sex-trafficked teens are provided resources so they can change their lifestyles.
