Tom Brady isn’t coming out of retirement, but that doesn’t mean his days with the NFL are completely finished.

Brady, 45, has been enlisted by the professional football league to better disseminate the message to players, coaches, and team personnel on the NFL’s rules on sports betting.

Brady, arguably the best quarterback to ever play the game, won seven Super Bowls and was named MVP of the big game five times. The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star retired for a second time after the 2022 season, a disappointing culmination to his illustrious career that saw Tampa Bay go 8-9 and get blown out in the Wild Card round to the Dallas Cowboys.

But Brady hasn’t fully driven off into the sunset. Instead, he’s paying it forward by helping the NFL train the next generation of players on the dangers of participating in sports betting while a professional athlete.

The NFL’s gambling policy prohibits all players, coaches, executives, and other team personnel from betting on NFL games. There are no exceptions, such as betting on a game a player isn’t participating.

The NFL also prohibits those individuals from betting on all other sports while they are at NFL facilities. But when apart from the team, betting on other sports like baseball and golf is allowed.

Brady Spokesman

9News in Denver, an NBC affiliate, reported Thursday that Brady recently taped a public service announcement that the NFL plans to mandate that all teams show its players and staff this offseason.

9News’ Mike Klis reports that Brady in the video discusses what an honor it is to play in the NFL, and how players and other NFL personnel betting on NFL games threaten the integrity of the league. Brady reportedly says those who violate the NFL gambling policy damage the reputation of the league and their team as a whole.

Do the right thing and follow the league’s guidelines on gambling,” Brady’s message, according to Klis, culminates.

Brady, the game’s all-time passing leader, tells players that they are the stewards of the league, and with that, have the responsibility of making sure the NFL remains the “greatest league in the world.”

Players Out of Bounds

The NFL has recently responded to numerous accounts of players in violation of the gambling policy.

In April, the NFL suspended five players after a league review determined that those individuals had bet on sports. Wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore of the Detroit Lions, as well as defensive end Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders, were suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games.

The Lions subsequently released Cephus and Moore. Detroit wideouts Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams were given six-game suspensions for betting on sports but not the NFL.

This week, the NFL confirmed yet another probe, this one into Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers’ betting activities. Rodgers said on Twitter that he had an “error in judgment.” The NFL review is ongoing, but a lengthy suspension is likely.
